If I can ram something and sink it, survive the battle, and maybe shoot down some planes and take some potshots at enemy ships, I usually get over 1k free XP.
I'll put on a Hotel Yankee and a Papa Papa flag. My guess is the Ise might get rewards for doing both BB and CV stuff? I know battleships, cruisers, and carriers all get different XP rewards for doing different stuff.
